“And certainly did We create man from an extract of clay. Then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging. Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump (of flesh), and We made(from) the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allah , the best of creators.” [Al-Mu’minun; 12-14]

“I can’t be bothered with paying homage to ‘forefathers’.”

Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf(aka Chris Jackson) is perhaps best known for the controversy created when he refused to stand for “The Star-Spangled Banner” before games,[4] stating that the flag was a symbol of oppression and that the United States had a long history of tyranny. He said that standing to the national anthem would therefore conflict with his Islamic beliefs. On March 12, 1996, the NBA suspended Abdul-Rauf for his refusal to stand, but the suspension lasted only one game. Two days later, the league was able to work out a compromise with him, whereby he would stand during the playing of the national anthem but could close his eyes and look downward. He usually silently recited a Muslim prayer during this time.
